Keep Your Eyes Open

Have you noticed that where your eyes look, your body follows.

Don’t try it next time you’re driving!

This is why we are to keep our eyes on Jesus—because when you are looking at Jesus, you will eventually find yourself looking like Him.

Qualified to Imitate

Going deeper, the main reason why you are to keep your eyes on Jesus, because as your truest self, you are already like Him. This is actually what qualifies you to imitate Him.

Not everyone is qualified to imitate Jesus. Imitating Jesus is reserved for those who have been made like Him by being born again.

Salvation is this: you have been predestined to be conformed to the image of Jesus, in every way. Jesus is the image of the invisible God, and the firstborn of creation, indicating that there would be more children to come, you being part of the more.(Colossians 1:15, Romans 8:29, Ephesians 1:5, Ephesians 5:1).

You are a new creation, born according to the likeness of Him, who is the firstborn of many brothers and sisters. This is what qualifies you to imitate Him.

Anyone who imitates without qualification is an imposter—a wannabe. But one who is qualified is an heir of God.

An heir does not imitate to become family. An heir imitates because he is family.

Keeping Your Eyes StraightHow to Imitate

“Let your eyes look straight ahead,
And your eyelids look right before you.
Ponder the path of your feet,
And let all your ways be established.
Do not turn to the right or the left;
Remove your foot from evil.” (Proverbs 4:25–27)

What is evil?

You already know evil is everything that is not like God—but it will heal your mind to recognize that evil is also everything that is not like this new you ,

Your BODY is NOTHING LIKE who you have become.

This means, if your thinking remains fixed on this earthly, material realm, you are susceptible to evil. But if you thoughts are caught up in the realms of the spirit—with your gaze fixed on Jesus no matter what is around you—you will walk as you really are with Jesus in the spirit realm.

The verse above says “Let your ways be established.”

The good news is that God has already done that for you. Isaiah prophecies what’s been fulfilled in us, writing “in righteousness you shall be established” (Isaiah 54:14).

There’s only one part left for us to play. We must establish this truth in our physical experience by walking it out. How? By continually aligning ourselves with the truth of what God has done in us.

Strive only to live in the good news of the life you share with Jesus.

A Practical Practice

Every hour, take a few minutes to stop and align yourself with the truth.

Remind yourself of who God has made you—this is how you “establish your way”.

Do not expect this to happen passively. Do not wait until things “feel tangible” before you begin walking in alignment.

You may say, “But I don’t feel any different.”

It doesn’t matter. The truth will ultimately harness your feelings.

Your Only Option

Treat this like driving while sleepy. A tired driver doesn’t wait until he doesn’t feel sleepy to keep his eyes on the road. He does it anyway, because sleeping on the wheel is not an option. Let truth likewise be your only option.

This is how we honor God—by walking in the good news of the life we share with Jesus.
